COSTA MESA — Lightning junior James Chai was medalist, firing a one-under 34 in the Academy League match Wednesday at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course.
Also scoring for the Lightning were Jared Hoffman (40), Mac Mace (42), Steve Choi (43) and Kam Fuji (46).
Sage Hill (11-2, 6-0) can all but clinch the league title by beating St. Margaret’s (5-1 in league) today.
The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Big Canyon Country Club.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Joel Betonte won two events and was on two winning relay teams for the Sailors in the Sunset League meet Wednesday.
He won the 400 meters in 52.2 seconds and the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, a personal record. The 4x100 relay team won in 45.4 and the 4x400 came in first in 3:42.4.
Evan Walker won the 100 in 11.4 and the 200 in 23.9 for Newport Harbor (3-1 in league).
Sophomores Mark Sakioka (13-6) and Max Vanbergh (13-6) went 1-2 in the pole vault. Ryan Andrews was first in shot put (50-1 1/2 ), while Brandon Kula was second in the discus (106-6).
Some Newport Harbor athletes will compete in Saturday’s Orange County Championships at Mission Viejo High. The Sailors final regular-season league meet is Thursday at Fountain Valley.
