Free Event for Undergrads and Recent Graduates Examines New Way of Approaching Career Entry in Highly Competitive and Uncertain Job Market;

Applies Project Management Principals to Plan for Career Success

 

 

WHAT:         The University of California, Irvine Extension, in an effort to arm students with valuable strategies for successful job search and career exploration amidst the high competition and uncertainty of economic downturn, presents a free event for undergraduates and recent graduates, “Charting your Career Path.” Open to students from all local colleges and universities, the event features a keynote presentation on strategies for managing a job search by applying the principals of project management and will be followed by eight career panel discussions. The session will also present alternatives to undergrads for extending their education with practical career training.

WHY:            With unemployment at a high, competition for jobs amongst recent grads is fierce. Today’s market dictates an entirely new way of approaching career entry. In response, this event explores how by applying fundamental project management principles, today’s graduates can gain a leg-up in their employment searches.

 

KEYNOTE:  Cynthia Stackpole, M.B.A., PMP, recognized project management industry expert, author and UC Irvine Extension Instructor, will present the event’s keynote address, “The College Graduate’s Guide to Finding a Job,” which will highlight how the tools and techniques of project management can make a job search more manageable and ultimately more successful.

 

CAREER PANELS: Supplementary breakout career panels will explore in-depth career fields including education, teaching English abroad, project management, personal financial planning, paralegal/contract management, life science, sustainability/ green jobs and sales. These panels will feature insight from experts within each field, discussing trends affecting their industries, career entry requirements, skills needed for career advancement, and advice for students to enhance their chances for employment.
