Costa Mesa police will conduct their second DUI checkpoint in as many weeks Saturday when they screen drivers on Harbor Boulevard.
From 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., police officers will be stationed on northbound Harbor Boulevard and Peterson Place stopping drivers and educating them about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or without a valid driver’s license.
Checkpoints generally do not lead to many DUI arrests but serve more as a reminder to drivers about the dangers of drinking and driving, and that police are seeking those breaking the law. The extra costs associated with the checkpoint are funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
