Traffic on northbound Harbor Boulevard was brought to a virtual standstill Tuesday morning during rush hour when a big-rig driver made a left turn off the southbound 405 offramp onto the street and flipped the trailer on to its side, police said.

From 6:17 a.m. to about 1 p.m. Tuesday emergency personnel shut down the right lanes of northbound Harbor Boulevard, including the onramp, after the driver lost control of his rig, Sgt. Bryan Glass said.

Police said the man, hauling pre-cast stone in his trailer to Santa Ana, was going too fast for the left turn, causing the weight to shift and flip his trailer, according to fire department officials. The driver was uninjured and no other cars were damaged in the wreck, police said.

The driver was given a ticket for driving at an unsafe speed, Glass said.
