UCI women’s soccer adds Sarsfield as new assistant

Brett Sarsfield, a volunteer assistant the last two seasons at Loyola Marymount University, has been hired as an assistant coach for the UC Irvine women’s soccer program, Anteaters Coach Scott Juniper announced Wednesday.

Sarsfield was an assistant men’s soccer and women’s water polo coach at Siena College in New York, before joining the LMU staff in 2007 as director of soccer operations.

He also coached in the boys’ soccer program at South Torrance High, as well as in the girls’ soccer program at Bishop Montgomery High.

He has coached in club programs and worked with the Ventura Fusion of the W-League, an elite women’s league.

Sarsfield played two seasons at Division I Manhattan College. He was voted “hardest working” by his teammates in 2001.

Sarsfield also played at Division III SUNY Cortland in 2002, helping the Red Dragons reach the national tournament.

The New York native has also worked as a professional sports photographer.

“We are eager to move the program forward and Brett’s experience in some key areas will allow us to do this in a major way,” Juniper said. “Brett shares our passion for the game ... Our players will enjoy working with Brett and we are very excited to have him.”

Sarsfield replaces Dustin Neerhoff, who left the program to begin his own non-profit organization
