CORONA DEL MAR — Freshman Grady Howe pulled the Sea Kings even, 1-1, in the 55th minute of the nonleague game Wednesday, but a late goal dropped the hosts’ record to 0-3-1.

Howe, playing his first varsity game after being called up from the junior varsity, scored the first goal of the season for the Sea Kings, on a play that began with a long throw-in by Alex Maintow. CdM’s Tommy Bangert flicked the ball with his head from the near post to the far post, to allow Howe to convert.

Zak Maurer-Erickson had seven saves for CdM, which played its best game of the year, according to Coach Pat Callaghan.
