Olivas’ foot put the match away in the 64th minute, allowing Estancia (3-0-1) to remain unbeaten.
Midfielder Antonio Gonzalez had a foot in each of the goals produced by Estancia, ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division IV preseason coaches’ poll.
Estancia’s bench got a clear view of his second precise assist to Olivas. From the sideline, Gonzalez fed a running Olivas.
Olivas beat the defender toward the inside before leaving him and goalkeeper Jose Hernandez deep in the box all alone for a couple of seconds.
Olivas finished fast, sneaking it past Hernandez. The footwork displayed on the attack got the larger-than-usual home crowd off its feet.
“Olivas is definitely our top player,” Burks said.
It took the fourth match of the season for Olivas to prove that he can finish.
The goals are Olivas’ first two of the season. A good time to find his touch as Estancia on Friday plays Santa Margarita, ranked No. 1 in Division I.
“Santa Margarita is next,” said Olivas of the challenge of continuing Estancia’s unbeaten season.
Estancia kept it alive by controlling the action against Newport Harbor, the second school the Eagles have beaten in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
The other win came against Corona del Mar.
This time, the defense gave up a goal.
A foul from 30 yards out set up Newport Harbor (1-1-1) four minutes into the second half.
On a fake direct free kick, striker Innocente Tellez blasted a beauty toward the far right post, away from keeper Edgar Vega’s outstretched hands.
The senior tied it at 1-1, giving the Sailors a reason to celebrate.
