Motorcyclist arrested after chase through city

December 01, 2008

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was arrested Sunday fleeing Costa Mesa police through city, officials said.

The driver, Daniel Esteyang of Trabuco Canyon, was seen about 8:30 p.m. at Santa Ana Avenue and 17th Street speeding southbound on his motorcycle and doing tricks when police tried to pull him over, Sgt. Zack Hoferitza said. Police said records show Esteyang had a suspended license.

With police in pursuit, Esteyang continued through the neighborhood, running stop signs, looking back at the police several times, police said.

Esteyang eventually stopped at a home in the 200 block of 15th Street, dropping his bike on its side and running, Hoferitza said. A resident in the home, Taylor Gibson, 19, told police Esteyang was not there, Hoferitza said. Police found Esteyang under a blue tarp and arrested him. Gibson was arrested on suspicion of lying to police.

The pair are due in court today.
