Edles, the two-time Orange Coast League champion who’s bound for UC Davis, won her first two rounds with ease at Corona del Mar High, with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rachelle Andra of Arlington and a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Mater Dei’s Neda Ghassemi.
Matsuoka, who finished second in the Pacific Coast League, won, 6-0, 6-0, against Savanna’s Jackie Cuevas in the first round and then beat Tiffany Cheng of St. Margaret’s, 6-2, 6-2.
Edels and Matsuoka will play Dec. 4 at Seal Beach Tennis Center vying to reach the semifinals the following day.
Blakeley, the Academy League champion, defeated Courtney Pattugalan of Northwood, 6-3, 6-3, in the first round, and swept Fairmont Prep’s Trisha Wang, 6-0, 6-0.
Corona del Mar’s two doubles teams both lost in the third round.
Senior Karen Ishii and junior Kelli Feeley lost to the second-seeded team of Jenna Glimp and Anna Tatsuno of Peninsula, 5-7, 4-6. Ishii and Feeley, the PCL champions, opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Arlington’s Laura Zirate and Davana Salgado of Arlington, 6-0, 6-0.
CdM seniors Lindsay Zotovich and Danielle Kaiden lost in the third round to Troy’s Allison Radde and Stephanie Hui, 4-6, 4-6. The CdM duo began the tournament with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Garden Grove’s Catherine Nguyen and Elizabeth Do.
Estancia’s Jennifer Johnston and Misha Brown, playing as alternates after a Laguna Beach team dropped out, lost to Maggie Le and Chelsea Logan of Cerritos, 5-7, 6-7 (5), in the first round.
Sage Hill senior Isa-Maria Taskinen and freshman Rian Billingsley were also eliminated in the first round after losing to El Dorado’s Sarty Adhikary and Emile Hechanova, 2-6, 3-6.
