Richard Greenberg’s Tony award-winning drama “Take Me Out” will enjoy a brief three-day engagement at UCI’s Little Theatre Nov. 21 to 23. The play — which includes full male nudity — focuses on a professional baseball player who elects to come out of the closet, to mixed reactions.
Shakespeare’s prose may be 500 years old, but it’s really fresh compared to UCI’s Feb. 20 to 28 production at the Claire Trevor Theatre, “The Bacchae Trilogy.” This one was written by Euripides about 407 B.C., just before the playwright’s death.
The title character in “The Book of Tink” (March 6 to 14 at the Claire Trevor Theatre) is Tinkerbell, the mischievous fairy from “Peter Pan.” Here, the characters from the famous novel are reimagined and recharacterized, some to eyebrow-raising contrasts.
Another familiar story, presented traditionally, is next. “Little Women” arrives May 29 and runs through June 6 at the Claire Trevor Theatre. The stage adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel focuses on four girls growing up in a fatherless household over a century ago.
A new drama about an artist’s re-emergence after 15 years, “Abstract Expression,” closes out the UCI season in the Studio Theatre. This play, focusing on a family squabbling over the father’s legacy, will be on stage from April 10 to 18.
We’re all familiar with “Twelfth Night” and “Little Women,” but the rest of UCI’s schedule will be new to most — even the one that’s more than 2,000 years old.
