The deep Newport Hills Killer Whales swim team played host to the Greenbrook Gators on June 14, swimming away with a convincing 800.5-489.5 South Coast Swim Conference victory.
The win improved the Killer Whales to a perfect 3-0 in dual meets this season.
In the 9- and 10-year-old boys’ division, Taylor Cortens stood out by winning the 50-yard freestyle, 25 butterfly and 100 individual medley. He set a pool and team record in the 25 fly with his time of 14.13 seconds. Cortens had shared the old pool record. He beat the previous team record set in 1984 by Matt Hooper.
Newport Hills boys also stood out in the 7-8 division, as they swept the first three places in every individual event. The 7-8 boys also took the top three spots in both the 100 medley relay and 100 free relay. Henry Wilde led the charge, as he was first in the 25 free, 25 fly and 25 backstroke events.
