The Orange County Registrar of Voters is urgently looking for about a hundred people to work the polls in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa for the June 3 statewide primary election.
Positions are available as either clerks or inspectors.
Inspectors are in charge of polling places, and clerks help sign in voters and explain the voting process. All new workers are required to go through one of many three-hour training sessions during May.
Poll workers put in 14 hours on election day, opening the polling place at 6 a.m., closing at 8 p.m. and cleaning up afterward. Inspectors are paid $130 and clerks are paid $95 for the shift.
