Beach Pit ends today with Sea Kings vying for fifth

The Beach Pit Classic, a local four-day, 16-team high school baseball tournament, concludes today with Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa and Estancia each playing home games.

Corona del Mar (8-9) is playing for fifth place against South Hills (12-2) at 11 a.m. The Sea Kings advanced after coming from behind to beat Woodbridge, 7-5, Tuesday.

Costa Mesa (11-7) qualified for the consolation championship after beating La Quinta, 6-1, Tuesday. The Mustangs play Northwood (10-7) at 2 p.m.

Estancia (7-11) lost its chance to play its cross-town rival Costa Mesa in the consolation title game after losing to Northwood, 12-4, Tuesday. The Eagles face La Quinta (11-6) at 11 a.m.

In the winner’s bracket title game, Saugus (11-4) plays West Ranch (7-8) of Stevenson Ranch today at Corona del Mar High at 2 p.m. The Centurions beat Canyon, 5-0, and West Ranch beat Irvine, 11-1, to advance.
