Council discusses baseball diamond, city hall designers

March 26, 2008

The planned Sunset Ridge Park probably ought to have a smaller baseball diamond than proposed to help reduce noise and not do as much to block views, Newport Beach City Councilman Steve Rosansky said Tuesday at a council study session.

The proposed park, which would also include two soccer fields, has angered some neighbors in the Newport Crest condo complex.

A presentation showed most of the sight line would remain untainted, and Newport Harbor Baseball Assn. officials said they could bring down the planned height of a back stop.

Later, council members unanimously voted to approve a lobbyist for Upper Newport Harbor’s dredging. Funding for the dredging will end in April, with about $13.8 million needed, a city estimate shows.

City Council members will pay $60,000 for the lobbying services of Van Scoyoc Associates.

The council also chose Rush Hill, Walter Richardson, Stephen Sandland and Linda Taylor to be architects on the new city hall design committee with Andrew Bowden as the landscape architect.
