WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

COSTA MESA — Senior Lindsey Rinke came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points and help the host Lions bounce back from having their regular-season Golden State Athletic Conference winning streak halted at 53 games.

Rinke hit five of her six three-point tries, while freshman reserve Kelsey Carlson drained four of six from beyond the three-point line and finished with 13 points for Vanguard (12-3, 8-1 in conference) Saturday.

Junior Lauren Gregory scored 12 points, senior Melissa Cook had 11 points and freshman Sarah Boyd 10 for the No. 3-ranked Lions, who caused 28 turnovers and held the Eagles (12-3, 8-1) to 28.4% shooting from the field (19 of 67).

Senior Stephanie Duda recorded her Big West-leading 11th double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

UCI (4-16, 0-6 in conference) outrebounded the Highlanders, 45-35.

UCR improved to 7-10, 5-1.

COSTA MESA — Host Orange Coast College earned a victory and a tie in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday to win the three-game series, 2-0-1.

Freshman catcher Jourdan Watanabe’s two-run home run keyed a three-run fifth inning in the opening-game win, erasing a 1-0 Cuesta lead.
