Donated dresses available during swap at high school

October 05, 2007

Can’t afford a nice gown for Homecoming?

No worries. On Saturday, teenagers can get an affordable donated dress at Costa Mesa High School.

High school girls will have the opportunity to swap an existing gown for another, or purchase one for $10.

“Find Your Style Dress Exchange” is sponsored by Costa Mesa High School’s Parent Student Teacher Assn. and the Orange County Chapter of Women Helping Women.

Today from 3 to 7 p.m., volunteers are accepting clean, gently worn dresses appropriate for teens. You can get a form to deduct it on your taxes while you’re at it. Donations will also be accepted from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, with shoppers who are donating a dress getting their pick from 10 a.m. to noon. Dresses are available to the public for $10 from noon to 3 p.m.

Proceeds will go to the high school’s printer cartridge refill program for teachers. Any remaining gowns will be donated to Women Helping Women, a nonprofit that provides business attire, image consulting and employment search support for low-income women looking to attain and sustain employment.
