Sundance winner, world flicks highlight UCI series

The UCI Film and Video Center presents a series on independent films.

The weekly showings include the film and Q-and-A sessions with the filmmakers.

Award-winning directors will give insight into their work. Jeffrey Blitz presents “Rocket Science,” a film that won him the Directing Award from the Sundance Film Festival.

The program focuses on art-house films including experimental film and aims to expose students to contemporary filmmaking as well as provide moviegoers a chance to see the latest in experimental film.

This gives film students exposure to the latest in contemporary filmmaking.

It also provides Orange County with a venue to see new and different films.

International movies shown will include those from Kenya and Japan.

Classics will also be shown during the series’ run.

The cost for students is $3, and general admission is $5. Seniors and school staff get in for $4. Passes are available for the series for $25 for general admission, and $15 for students.

Showings are at 7 p.m. Thursdays in UCI’s Humanities Instructional Building 100. The program runs through Nov. 29.
