Orange Coast College was one of 20 colleges and universities nationwide receiving a grant from the federal government Thursday to enhance programs and strengthen administration.

U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced that OCC had received $399,998 to develop a student success center and an automated early alert and attendance accounting system. The U.S. Department of Education awarded a total of $7.4 million to the 20 recipients under its Strengthening Institutions Program.

"I'm confident that all the schools plan to use the awards in innovative ways to enhance teaching and learning," Spellings said.
