Take a look at Costa Mesa's best scholars

The Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce will honor the best scholars in the city at the chamber's Les Miller Student Awards breakfast today.

The winners, their activities and honors are listed below.

COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL

MITCH FRIEDMAN

ACTIVITIES: Key club; National Honor Society; academic decathlon; editor of the school paper; varsity cross country and track captain; ASB activities commissioner; basketball coach for Costa Mesa parks and recreation; youth group at Harbor Christian Fellowship.

HONORS: Kiwanis athlete of the month.

EMIL ANDREW SINAJON

ACTIVITIES: National Honor Society; Key club; academic decathlon; copy editor for the Hitching Post; tennis; teacher's assistant in summer science program at Paularino Elementary School; 2006 Child Abuse Walkathon; 2006 John Wooden charity silent auction.

HONORS: CSF, honor roll, department medalist in Spanish 3, U.S. history and English.

LINH HOANG

ACTIVITIES: Asian club; academic decathlon; math, engineering, science achievement vice president; vice president of fundraising for Environmental Marine Science Academy; Make-a-Wish treasurer; National Honor Society secretary; journalism opinion editor; 2006 Girls State Conference delegate; varsity tennis; candy striper; Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Week; Challenge Day; math tutor.

HONORS: academic letters; honor roll; Irvine Co. scholarship.

EMILY COTTON

ACTIVITIES: Make-a-Wish volunteer; National Honor Society community service coordinator; soccer; varsity cross-country and track and field captain; aide in at Newport Mesa Church child day care aide; Costa Mesa Senior Center volunteer; NHS Walk-A-Thon for abused kids; volunteer at Muscular Dystrophy Clinic.

HONORS: Daily Pilot female athlete of the week; nominee for Balboa Bay Club scholarship.

ESTANCIA HIGH SCHOOL

SYDNEY BARLOON

ACTIVITIES: varsity cross-country and swimming; ASB secretary; Site Council student representative; Key club; equestrian competition; Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard's New Zealand exchange team.

HONORS: CSF; honor roll; scholar athlete; four-time cross-country MVP.

MAYO KAWANO

ACTIVITIES: varsity tennis captain; French club president; Key club historian; Asian club; band; black belt in karate; Big Brother Big Sister Club volunteer at Wilson Elementary.

HONORS: all-league sportsmanship award for tennis.

IBRAHIM MURADIAN

ACTIVITIES: cross-country; track and field captain; Key club; Save Our Youth program; Mesa Verde Library assistant volunteer; American Red Cross.
