Ken Marcus, the staff director of the United States Commission on Civil Rights, plans to speak to UC Irvine students and faculty tonight about allegations of anti-Semitism on campus.
UCI has had several well-publicized instances of conflict between Jewish and Muslim students — the most recent occurring in January, when Muslims protested a speech on campus by pro-Israel historian Daniel Pipes. Since February, a research team from the Hillel Foundation of Orange County has been conducting interviews at UCI and plans to have a report finished by the end of the year.
Members of the UCI Hillel Jewish Student Union and Anteaters for Israel are expected to attend tonight's lecture, which begins at 7 p.m. in Berkeley Place, Room 1101. The event is free and open to the public.
