Newport Beach teen reports being stabbed
A 17-year-old Newport Beach boy was recovering at home Thursday after being stabbed in the back after visiting his girlfriend in Costa Mesa on Wednesday night, police said.
Around 10:45 p.m. the teen was walking toward his truck when a silver Honda pulled up next to him, police said. The two men inside, described as "goth looking" by the victim, asked if he likes to "kick it with Hispanics," Sgt. Marty Carver said.
The teen, whose girlfriend is Latina, said he did and kept walking, Carver said. The men reportedly got out of the car and chased the teen, catching him at Placentia Avenue and Newton Way, where the car's driver stabbed the boy in the back twice, police said.
The victim kept running into a nearby alley and lost his attackers, Carver said.
The teenager contacted the police while he was being treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Carver said.
The first attacker was described as 19 to 20 years old, 6-feet-2, 170 pounds with blond hair, police said. He wore black mascara and had a powder-white face, the teen told police.
The second was described as 17 to 18 years old, 5-feet-10, 150 pounds with black, slicked-back hair and a partial goatee, Carver said. Both were dressed in all black, Carver said.
Man attempts to rob Macy's at mall
A man who stood in line at a register at Macy's in South Coast Plaza on Wednesday evening tried to rob the clerk when it was his turn, police said Thursday.
The cashier refused to give the man any money, saying she did not know how to open the register, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Birney said.
He then fled out the doors facing Bear Street and has not been seen since.
While at the register, the man kept his hands in his pockets but moved one hand around like there was something in it, Birney said.
But witnesses never saw a weapon.
