SANTA BARBARA — The top-ranked UC Irvine men's volleyball team posted a pair of victories Friday in the Elephant Bar Classic at UC Santa Barbara, advancing to the championship match.
Coach John Speraw's Anteaters opened the tournament by sweeping Stanford, 30-23, 30-21, 30-23.
They then topped Cal State Northridge, 30-19, 30-24, 30-22, in the semifinals.
UCI is in the championship match of the tournament against No. 3-ranked UCLA tonight at 6:30.
The defending NCAA champion Bruins topped the host Gauchos in three games in their second-round match.
In the 'Eaters second-round win over Northridge, senior Matt Webber led UCI with a season-high 18 kills, while senior Jayson Joblosnky had 16 kills and 11 digs.
