Newport Harbor def. Los Alamitos

NEWPORT BEACH — Katie Wells recorded a career-high 22 kills and added 11 blocks to lead the Sailors to a share of the Sunset League title with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-27, 25-20, 18-16 victory Thursday.

Alesha Young contributed 46 assists, 20 digs and three kills, Megan Munce 11 kills, 15 digs and two aces, Jamie Heenan seven digs and Alex Penniwell six blocks and four kills for the Sailors (21-5, 8-2 in league).

Newport enters the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs as the No. 2 seed from the Sunset League, because Los Al defeated the Sailors in three games earlier in the season. Newport plays at rival Corona del Mar tonight at 6.

Sage Hill def. Whitney

NEWPORT COAST — Colleen Heyler recorded seven kills and three aces in the Lightning's 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 Academy League victory Thursday.

Kelly Lawler added 24 assists, four kills and three aces for Sage (10-16, 6-4 in league), which finished third in the league.

Orange Coast League finals

COSTA MESA — The Estancia High girls team won its first league title, and the boys finished second at Fairview Park Thursday. The Costa Mesa boys and girls finished third.

Sidney Barloon led Estancia, finishing second in 19 minutes, 26 seconds. Alexa Aguilar (third in 20:16) and Paula Negrete (fourth in 20:19) followed and Mesa's Emily Cotton came in fifth (20:28).

Sindy Ramirez (seventh in 20:39); Karina Rios (ninth in 21:07); Magali Onofre (10th in 21:20) and Eunice Rodriguez (11th in 21:30) also contributed to the Eagles' championship. Courtney Green (15th in 22:15) Wendi Way (16th in 22:23), Cheyanne Lopez (19th in 23:44), Alyssa Nunez (20th in 24:08), Brittany Way (22nd in 24:16) and Mireya Mojica (23rd in 24:47) also competed for the Mustangs.

On the boys side, Estancia's Fernando Orozco came in third in 16:28. Wes Barloon (fifth in 16:51), Adrieo Robles (sixth in 16:56), Enrique Vivar (eighth in 17:13), Damien Leon (ninth in 17:18), Cesar Casillas (11th in 17:23) and Andy Navarette (14th in 17:49) followed.

Mitch Friedman (13th in 17:37), John Zapeta (15th in 18:19), James Stucker (18th in 19:20), Jason Rosello (19th in 19:30, John Sudveck (20th in 19:40), Drake Burnette (21st in 19:45) and Oscar Diaz (22nd in 19:53) also competed for Mesa.

Pacific Coast League finals

ORANGE — The Corona del Mar High girls team won the league meet and title, and the boys were edged by Laguna Hills to finish second at Irvine Regional Park Thursday.
