Northwest Collegiate Classic

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The UC Irvine men's golf team opened its regular season with a fifth-place finish in the Northwest Collegiate Classic, which concluded Tuesday at the Trysting Tree Golf Club.

UCI senior Jay Choe finished eighth with a score of 217 over the three rounds, including a team-best 69 in the second round.


Sean Shahi was 15th with a 221 total, John Chin (226) placed 34th, Brian Edick (228) was 43rd and Wesley Mitchell (231) finished in 56th place.

Oregon won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 867.


Fresno Pacific def. Vanguard

COSTA MESA — Kelsey Wirt led Vanguard with 10 kills in a, 30-20, 30-16, 30-19, Golden State Athletic Conference loss to No. 2-ranked Fresno Pacific Tuesday.


Vanguard vs. Concordia

The Vanguard men's soccer match against Concordia was rescheduled for today at 1 p.m. due to lack of officials.

Cypress 1, Orange Coast 0

COSTA MESA — Orange Coast goalie Giovanni Guzman recorded five saves in the Pirates' Orange Empire Conference loss Tuesday.

Pedro Ochoa scored in the 18th minute on a header in the 18th minute for Cypress (3-3-3, 1-1-1 in conference). OCC, which dropped to 5-5-1, 1-2-0, will play host to Irvine Valley Friday at 3 p.m.
