    The Newport Beach Central Library will feature an exhibit of model ships presented by the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum and the Ship Modeler's Association as part of the city's centennial celebration. Models selected are of ships that were in the Newport Beach area over the last 500 years. The exhibit can be seen during regular library hours; admission is free.     SAILING

    The Newport Single Sailors, in conjunction with the South Shore Yacht Club, will meet on the second Sunday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Docksider Room at the Newport Beach Yacht Club, 1099 Bayside Dr., Newport Beach. (949) 499-3592.

    Orange Coast College's School of Sailing and Seamanship offers a three-hour workshop to teach sailors the basics for maintaining and troubleshooting their outboard engines from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 15.     FISHING

    Fishing classes leave Balboa Pavilion at 6 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. Cost: $125. (949) 673-2810.

    Get to the Newport Pier early to watch the dory fishing fleet return with the fresh catch of the day. Fish are prepared for sale at McFadden Square, an open-air market.

    PADDLING

    Imua Outrigger Canoe Club invites adventure-minded adults to canoe Newport Harbor Hawaiian-style. No experience required — they'll teach you all you need to know. Dress for the beach and bring a towel every Saturday at 10 a.m. at North Star Beach, 1 White Cliffs Drive, Newport Beach. (714) 432-1236.

    Back Bay canoe tours on the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve depart at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays from Shellmaker Island, which is off Back Bay Drive in Newport Beach. (949) 640-6746.

    Newport Aquatic Center offers sweep rowing (one oar), sculling classes (two oars) and canoe rentals. Classes run for four weeks and cost $75. Introductory clinics also are available Saturdays and Sundays for $10. (949) 646-7725.
