FULLERTON — The Corona del Mar High girls tennis team used strong play in doubles to post a 14-4 nonleague triumph Thursday at Troy, which captured the last two CIF Southern Section Division II titles.

The Warriors (2-1) moved up to Division I this year.

CdM sophomore Lindsay Zotovich remained undefeated, 11-0, with different doubles partners this season. For the first time this season, she teamed up with Danielle Kaiden, her partner from last year, Coach Brian Ricker said.

Ricker also said the victory was big for the Sea Kings (4-0).

Singles -- Lee (CdM) lost to Ramos, 1-6, def. Kang, 6-4, (sub) Atkins (CdM) def. Tseng, 6-4; Matsuoka (CdM) lost, 0-6, won, 6-0, 6-3; Hogan (CdM) lost, 3-6, won, 6-0, 7-5.


Doubles -- H. Young-M. Young (CdM) def. Villijuan-Andres, 6-4, def. Guiess-Hui, 6-0, lost to Chow-Leiao, 5-7; Kaiden-Zotovich (CdM) won, 6-0, 6-3, 7-6; Damion/Gaytan-Leach won, 6-2, 6-3, (sub) McKitterick-Ishii (CdM) won, 6-1.


Newport Harbor def. Northwood

IRVINE — Junior Emily Gelbaum earned a 6-0 singles win and Kristina Heimstaedt won four games as a singles substitute to help the Sailors post a 76-71 nonleague win on games Thursday after the two teams split 18 sets.

The Sailors' No. 2 doubles team of Chrissy Schwartz and Natalie Small swept their three sets to help the Tars improve to 3-0.

Doubles -- Dunlap-Sowers (NH) def. Wong-Greenberg, 6-2, def. Ogle-Lorra, 6-0, lost to Kim-Judy, 3-6; Schwartz-Small (NH) won, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3; Shea-Sagalas (NH) lost, 3-6, won, 6-2, lost, 6-7 (2-7).

COSTA MESA — No. 2 singles player Kendra Fisher and the No. 1 doubles team of Abby Koff and Jennifer Johnston did not drop a game as the Eagles remained undefeated, 4-0, with the nonleague win Thursday.

Sophomore No. 1 singles player Ellie Edles dropped just one game in her three sets.

The Eagles will try to stay perfect Tuesday when they play host to El Modena.
