CEREMONY FOR SWANSON

The UC Irvine baseball team honored senior pitcher Glenn Swanson for his April 25 no-hitter prior to its game Friday against Pacific.

The brief ceremony, recognizing Swanson for his 14-strikeout gem against the University of San Diego, also included former Anteater Tad Davis, who pitched UCI's second no-hitter in 1974.

Dave Wollos, who threw UCI's first no-hitter in 1970, was unable to make the trip but sent a brief statement of congratulations to be read during the event.

YELSEY STANDS OUT

Former Corona del Mar High standout Anne Yelsey, a junior tennis standout at Stanford University, teamed with senior Alice Barnes to be named Pac-10 Women's Doubles Team of the Year.

Yelsey and Barnes won their second conference doubles title in April and were 35-3 heading into the first round of the NCAA Team Championship on Friday against Quinnipiac.

BROWN LIONS' BEST

Senior pitcher Clay Brown is the lone Vanguard University representative on the All-Golden State Athletic Conference baseball team.

Brown, who went 8-5 with a 2.43 earned-run average and threw five complete games, including one shutout, made the 19-player squad selected by conference coaches.

In two seasons at Vanguard, the 6-foot-1 right-hander, compiled a 2.71 ERA in 133 innings.
