Estancia, Mesa set to battle

Peek At The Week

It's not quite the harmonic convergence, but this week should be a memorable one for those who enjoy the rivalry between Costa Mesa High and Estancia.

The two schools meet in no fewer than three sports this week, making for a busy time for the athletic directors and fans of both schools.

First up is a Golden West League boys' golf match at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club.

The Eagles are coming off a trip to South Carolina for The Palmetto High School Golf Championships, so jet lag might be a factor. If so, the Mustangs would love to take advantage.

Next is a league matchup in softball at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Costa Mesa. Estancia won the first meeting, taking advantage of a number of Costa Mesa errors. The youthful Mustangs hope to reverse that fate and continue building for the future.

Finally, the teams meet in baseball on Saturday afternoon at Costa Mesa with the Paul Troxel Memorial Trophy that goes to the annual series winner on the line.

The Mustangs won the first meeting and are coming off a consolation final appearance at the Beach Pit Classic.

Estancia has slowed after a hot start and has lost a slew of players to injuries.
