Heenan hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds left to tie fourth-seeded Ayala in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs. Heenan had 15 points, including a handful of three-pointers, in the game. However, the upset wasn't to be, as Ayala hit a three-pointer with four seconds left to escape with the win.
Koon, a tenacious defender who often covered the opposing team's top scorer, held El Dorado star Jason Toney to seven points in Newport Harbor's 32-31 win in the first round of the CIF Division II-AA playoffs. Koon was also a clutch performer who made big plays in key moments of games.
Caldwell (6-foot-7) missed part of the season recovering from a broken ankle suffered during the summer, but returned for most of the Sea View League schedule. Caldwell, only a sophomore, figures to be a force in the post for Newport Harbor over the next two years.
For the Newport Harbor girls' basketball team, Ivy Melo was an All-Sea View League second-team selection.
Melo, a junior guard, was the top offensive threat for the Sailors, which won just two Sea View League games.
