When Scott Slaughter, a junior, subbed in for his brother, he hit
two three pointers in the first quarter and also finished with 12
points.
Corona del Mar outscored Calvary Chapel, 19-9, in the first
quarter and held on from for the win and the chance to compete for
the top spot in league.

Tooma leads Lightning
* WATER POLO: Devin Tooma tallied three goals to help the Sage
Hill School girls water polo team defeat Estancia, 6-4, for the
second time this season in a nonleague game Friday at Corona del Mar
High.
Kathryn Bishop made a point-blank save -- one of five in the game
-- to start the counterattack that led to Tooma's goal, which was
assisted by Elle White. Karly Bennet, Whitney Gaglio and White each
added goals for Sage (8-10) while Melissa Buchmann powered the Eagles
with two goals.
Courtney Hess and Jessica Kasper both tallied single goals for the
Eagles while goalkeeper Katie Mahan made eight saves.

Estancia boys soar
* SOCCER: The Estancia High boys soccer team improved its Golden
West League record to 2-1 after a 2-1 win over host Santa Ana Friday.
The Eagles (3-5-1) trailed, 1-0, after a half of play, but came
out in the second half and fired in two goals. Senior captain Geo
Macias heaved a throw-in all the way to the penalty box and after
bouncing off of a couple of players, Angel Cirilo drilled it in.
