LIONS ATTEND INTERNATIONAL VISITATION IN ENSENADA
Seven members of the Harbor Mesa Lions Club recently attended the
48th annual Lion's Visitation in Ensenada, Mexico. Lions clubs from
District 4-L4 participated in the four-day event, which was hosted by
the Ensenada Lions Club. District 4-L4 Gov. Barbara Hayward reported
that the visiting clubs donated a total of nearly $8,000 in
contributions of school supplies, medical equipment, eyeglasses and
cash. Costa Mesa City Councilman Mike Scheafer, of the Costa Mesa
Newport Harbor Lions, was a chairman and one of the organizers of the
visitation.
HEARTS AND HANDS DAY
More than 500 youths and adults from more than two dozen different
congregations and service clubs will come together on Nov. 20 for the
Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council's Hearts and Hands "Hands On"
Service Day, according to council Vice President Jaimie Day. There
will be on-site projects for a number of local community groups and
international relief projects. This is an interfaith day of service
as Christians, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, Bahais and service club
members come together to work on projects that benefit our local
communities as well as needy people around the world.
One special project this year will be the collection of items for
the men and women of the armed services stationed in Iraq. We will
have more about that in a future Community & Clubs column.
You, your family, club and even office group are welcome to join
in the fun of hands-on service on Nov. 20. You can spend an hour or
all day, depending on your schedule. There are projects for just
about every age group and experience level. High school students can
