Eagles sweep Ocean View

The Estancia High boys volleyball team swept visiting Ocean View,

25-13, 25-22, 25-19, to clinch sole possession of the Golden West

League title. The Eagles (23-6, 12-0 in league) have swept every

league opponent they have faced this year.

Coach Tracey Ingraham said tough serves and hard hitting were the

keys to Estancia's win. Scott Sankey had 12 kills, Kris Hartwell had

nine and Josh Kornegay six to lead the Estancia attack.

Trevor Holmes finished with 29 assists in the match and Brad

Larsen had seven service aces and 11 digs for the Eagles, who will

wait for CIF Southern Section playoff pairings to be announced

Monday.

Sage athletes set records

* TRACK AND FIELD: The Sage Hill School boys track and field team

came in second at the Academy League championships Friday with 131

points. St. Margaret's was first with 161.

Braden Barnett set a meet record with a 47-6 1/2 mark in the shot

put and also claimed top honors in the discus with a 123-5 1/2

showing. Barnett also finished second in the 100 meters (11.4). Zach

Chandy tripled for the Lightning, winning the 100 (11.2), 200 (22.4) and 400 (52.1). Chandy was also the anchor on the first-place 1,600

relay team (3:40.1), running his 400 meters in a blistering 47.8.

The Sage Hill girls improved from last year's last-place finish to

a fourth place this year with 70 points. Laura Gordon set a league

record in the triple jump (34-4 1/4) and was first in the 100-hurdles

(17.1) for the Lightning. Amy Werblin in the discus throw (83-10) was

the only other Sage Hill individual winner.

Sea Kings cruise to win

* BASEBALL: The suspense ended early Friday as Corona del Mar High

scored seven runs in the first two innings while Sea King starter and

winner Blake Contant was sharp for four innings as CdM defeated

visiting Calvary Chapel, 9-3, in Pacific Coast League baseball

action.

The PCL champion Sea Kings (18-5, 13-0 in league and ranked No. 3

in CIF Southern Section Division IV), are expected to be seeded in

the upcoming playoffs. They collected 11 singles out of their 13

hits, led by Tyler Lance (2 for 4 with three RBIs) and Jake Lemmerman

(2 for 4 with two RBIs). Josh Bradbury and Barrett Sprowl also had

two hits each for Corona del Mar. Contant gave up two hits in four

innings.

OCC duo advances

* TENNIS: The Orange Coast College doubles tandem of sophomores

Sabrina Tanamal and Leah Becker advanced to today's quarterfinals of

the state women's tennis championships at Monterey Country Club in

Palm Desert.
