February 26, 2004

UC Irvine men's basketball player Mike Efevberha has been suspended

indefinitely by Anteater head coach Pat Douglass.

"At this time, I have suspended Mike indefinitely for violating

team and department rules," Douglass said in a released statement.

Efevberha, a sophomore wing from Pomona, is averaging 11.1 points

and 2.6 rebounds through 24 games this season. He has started 21

contests and leads UCI with 40 three-point baskets.

Senior Matt Okoro is expected to move into that spot in the

starting lineup Thursday. Okoro, who is averaging 4.5 points and 3.1

rebounds, tied his season high with six boards in last Saturday's

game at New Mexico State.

The Anteaters (10-14, 5-9 Big West) host Idaho tonight at 7:05

p.m. and Utah State Saturday at 8:05 p.m. in conference games at the

Bren Events Center.
