The UC Irvine tennis team defeated Air Force, 5-2, at Anteater Tennis
Stadium in a nonconference match Monday.
UCI (3-3) won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles
point. Senior Jon Endrikat and senior Wkwesi Williams defeated Justin
Mancinelli and Chris Dong, 8-3, in the No. 2 match. In No. 3 doubles,
Zoran Korac, who played at Orange Coast College, and sophomore Peter
Surapol were 8-4 winners over Trevor Johnson and Justin Lau.
In singles play, the Anteaters won four of six matches to clinch
the victory over the Falcons. Junior Brian Morton, a Corona del Mar
High graduate, won the No. 3 singles match, outlasting Tyler McClung,
6-3, 6-0. Other winners for UCI included Ryusuke Kashiwabara, Korac
and Mustafa Ulukan.
Morton and Kashiwabara lost their doubles match, 9-8, to Shannon
Buck and McClung.
UCI returns to the court in a home match against Santa Clara
Saturday.
