Eight teams began the second annual Newport Harbor High alumni
basketball tournament Saturday morning, but the 1990-92 team was the
one left standing in the afternoon.
The team of Justin McIntee, Chuck McGavern, Eric Dragaset, Michael
Brassler, Alan Fraser and Tyler Koon defeated the Class of 2003,
which included Chad Rorden, Chase Cameron, Jair Hernandez, Scott
Ramser and George Federov, 47-35, said Jamie Holmes, the tournament's
director.
The 1990-92 team defeated the 2003 team by one point earlier in
the day.
The champions won five games and received monogrammed caps as
prizes.
The Class of '96, which featured Peter Cunningham, Wes Badorek,
Justin Turner, Scott Stickler and Eric Freeman, made it to the
semifinals before losing to the eventual champions.
Saturday's tournament had 55 players, an increase of 10 from a
year ago. About $500 will go into the booster club's alumni fund,
Holmes said.
