Rebels rally past Anteaters in eighth

March 26, 2003

UNLV shortstop Peter White took one for the team Tuesday night,

driving in the winning run in a 3-2 come-from-behind nonconference

triumph over visiting UC Irvine by being hit by a pitch in the eighth

White's plunking, the third UNLV hit batsman of the night and the

62nd for the Rebels this season, broke a 2-2 tie and helped drop the

Anteaters to 10-17.

UNLV (20-8) had pulled even with a run in the seventh. The winning

run was unearned and the Anteaters committed five errors.

White was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs, as both teams finished

with six hits.

The setback marked the 13th time in 27 games the Anteaters have

scored three or fewer runs and they are now averaging 2.5 runs in

their 17 defeats, compared to 7.5 runs in their victories.

The UNLV victory avenged a 3-1 loss at UCI March 11.

Chris Klemm and Mark Wagner went 2 for 4 for UCI.
