Dr. Longhurst recognized
for work in biology
UCI Cardiologist Dr. John Longhurst has been awarded the Lawrence
K. Dodge Endowed Chair in Integrative Biology. Longhurst is a
professor of medicine and cardiology and an expert in acupuncture as
it affects the heard and circulation. His experiments have shown that
acupuncture relaxes blood vessels in a way that helps keep blood
pressure low, potentially reducing the risk of heart disease.
Wa Thiong'o awarded
Medal of Presidency
Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, UCI professor of English and comparative
literature, has been awarded the Medal of the Presidency of the
Italian Cabinet. The medal was awarded by the International
Scientific Committee of the Pio Manzu International Research Center
in Italy. Ngugi was honored based on his work in advancing
multiculturalism and work toward promoting understanding for
minorities.
