Indiana coaches believe Meek, an explosive forward, is the final piece
to the perennial NCAA powerhouse's recruiting puzzle for next season,
according to Howard Meek, Trey's father.
Meek, a first-team All-Sea View pick as a junior and a second-team
honoree as a senior, amassed eight goals and three assists in nine recent
tournament games for the American Global Soccer School's under-19 premier
club team.
He helped Burbank-based AGSS win the College Showcase tournament,
March 23-25, and also impressed IU coaches in the Dallas Cup, held April
8-14 in Texas.
Meek took a recruiting visit to Indiana March 30-April 1, then visited
the UCLA campus April 21-22.
"I had mixed emotions, but I really liked the family atmosphere at
Indiana," Meek said. "I just thought the whole environment was first
class."
Meek will major in sports management at IU, which has a storied soccer
history under 28-year head coach Jerry Yeagley.
The Hoosiers have won five national championships, including
back-to-back crowns in 1998-99, and have been to the last four College
Cup events, the sport's final four.
Indiana has been to the College Cup 14 times and made 25 NCAA
Tournament appearances in Yeagley's tenure. The Hoosiers lost in the
semifinals to Creighton, 2-1 in overtime, last season.
