The Costa Mesa Conference and Visitors Bureau earned top honors in

this year's California Tourism Awards competition.

The bureau won the award for its promotional package to tourists that

contained complimentary certificates from stores and restaurants valued

at $450.

The package increased business by 20%, officials said. The purpose of

the package, called "A Gift from us to you," was to provide added value

to travelers and other guests at seven Costa Mesa hotels.

About 20,000 packages were given to the hotels to distribute to

travelers upon check-in and to guests attending meetings at conference

halls.
