NBLL Majors: Reds edge Giants, 7-6

NEWPORT BEACH - The Reds broke a 6-6 tie with a bases-loaded walk

to defeat the Giants, 7-6, Saturday, in Newport Beach Little League

Majors Division action.

Ryan Lanni scored the winning run for the Reds, while Jake Lemmerman

and J.P. Gormly combined for five hits.

Ryan Kent, Tyler Ellis and Andrew Silva each had key hits for the

Reds, while Brian Burke pitched six strong innings and Eric Mooney made a


nice catch in center field.

Nick Taylor led the Giants with a single and double, while key hits

were provided by Tommy Hutchison, Kevin Kottke, Danny Moskovits and Marc

Roudanez. Moskovits and Phillip Bannan each pitched well for the Giants.

In other Majors Division action:

Giants 6, Braves 2 - Jaffer Kattan's two-run single broke a 2-2 tie

and gave the Giants the lead for good over the Braves.

Pitcher Danny Moskovits shut down the Braves in the final three

innings with six strikeouts. He also had two singles and an RBI, while

Phillip Bannan added a single, triple and one RBI.

Nick Taylor, Kevin Dearen, Kevin Kottke, Danny Hurst and Mark Kanow

each helped spark the Giants' offense.

Diamondbacks 5, Dodgers 1 - Pitchers Greg Garte and Fletcher Della

Grotta combined for a three-hitter to lead the Diamondbacks over the


Garte, Della Grotta, Garrett Amoroso, Conner Whalen and Cameron Black

each had key hits for the D-Backs, while Ford Noe, Chris Rosen and Wyatt

Cole each made solid plays on defense.

The Dodgers were led by the all-around play of Kelsey Chase, Alex

Johnston, Luke Greiner, Ryan Austin, Spencer Brown and Alan Hardison.

Yankees 12, Red Sox 2 - Vinnie Saint John had three hits, two runs

scored and two RBIs to lead the Yankees.

Zack Von Berg added four hits, four runs scored and two RBIs, while

Patrick Marin-Finn came through with a hit and two RBIs. Von Berg and

Kyle Legnand each pitched well for the Yanks.

For the Red Sox, Grant Gerdau and Alex Matthews each had key hits.

In AAA Division action:

Tigers 7, Red Sox 6 - The Tigers withstood a late-inning rally to edge

the Red Sox on Saturday.

Pitchers Steven Manning, Denny Powers and Trevor Jones held the Red

Sox to only four hits over five innings.

The Tigers' attack was led by Garrett Meaut, who hit a home run and

Austin McCarthy, who singled, doubled and drove in four runs.

Jesse Starnes was the defensive star for the Tigers, robbing a Red Sox

hitter from an extra-base hit with a diving snag at first base.

The Red Sox were led by James Cunningham, Matt Steinberg, Matt

Wheatley and Travis Leyton.
