past weekend.
Kerr, of Fountain Valley, received a $500 scholarship in addition to the
crown, a trophy and a sash.
First runner-up was Kelly Ann Loros, 18, of Costa Mesa. Loros is a senior
at Costa Mesa High School.
Arlene Schafer, a former Costa Mesa city manager and pageant chairwoman,
raved about the event.
"It was a total success," said Schafer, who is also a past president of
the Lions Club. "Everyone was so positive about the contest. People even
wanted a parade. If anything, this contest is going to grow."
The event was shelved last year in memory of the late Eric Johnson, a
longtime pageant chairman.
Judges included Sara Reeve, manager of South Coast Plaza Retail Services;
Tom Johnson, publisher of the Daily Pilot; Allan Roeder, city manager;
and Jack Faulkner, administrator of football operations for the Super
Bowl champion St. Louis Rams.
