Surfing: Newport surfers win again

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor's varsity club surf team had little

trouble defeating Fountain Valley, 83-40, at 58th Street Tuesday morning.

Robert Palm and Pat Towersey each turned in solid rides for the local

squad, while Joe Alani won his shortboard heat by completing three

consecutive back-side floaters on a four-foot left-breaking wave.

Rex Adams took first with a fast down-the-line right, punctuated by a

hard cutback and a 360 finish for the Sailors.

Josh Kast performed three el rollos and two back-to-back 360s to take

first place in the bodyboard division.

Newport's Heather Clark, Amy Lowry and Beth Barber finished 1-2-3 in the

girls division, while in the longboard division Alex Knost, Ryan

Bellerose and Michael Kitto pulled off the same 1-2-3 finish for Newport

Harbor.
