Women's volleyball: VU opens with win

SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Megan Godfrey had 11 kills, 12 digs and four

aces for Vanguard University in Tuesday's 11-15, 15-8, 15-7, 15-1 nonconference win over host United States International University.

Junior setter Kelly Kleinsmith had 20 assists, while sophomore Carly

Birkhauser added 17 digs for VU (1-0). USIU falls to 0-2 overall.

The Lions travel to Irvine to compete in the Concordia Tournament

Friday and Saturday.

Friday, the Lions will take on Cascade College at 9 a.m. at University

High, followed by Masters College at 3 p.m. at Concordia.

Saturday, VU will battle Embry-Riddle Aeronautical College at 1 p.m.

at Irvine College, then will face Cal State Los Angeles at 5 p.m. at

Concordia.
